This double lesson introduces learners to motivation, we look at both the four theories and the variety of ways to motivate in practice. We start with looking at the four theorists, step by step with discussion, a short case study to apply the knowledge with answers on the powerpoint.
We then go onto look at financial and non financial methods of motivation before looking at a case study of a company that has been voted as one of the best places to work - we investigate what makes it such a good place to work, a 12 mark question based on this with structure guidance and a model answer provided.

This resource includes 1x PPT and 1x word document which can be delivered over a double lesson.
We focus on Porter’s five forces by starting with a video outlining the model, then some slides to consolidate the theory on this interesting tool to analyse influences on an industry. A case study on Tesco’s buyer power is looked at before students attempt to carry out a Porter’s five forces analysis on the smartphone industry, this could be carried out as a group activity and findings presented back to class.
In the second lesson, we look at a case study which we previously looked at in year 1 (3.1.3) on the gaming market, now that students have studied the external environment in thorough detail in year 2, we attempt this again. Model answer and peer assessment grid provided, debate question, videos, case studies, kahoot quiz and a box plenary to finish with.
As we come to the end of external influences, some slides at the end to remind students that PESTLE and SWOT are also useful tools to analyse external influences on businesses together with Porter’s five forces.

This double lesson introduces learners to the world of taxes. We start by discussing what a tax is, types of taxes in the UK and the categories of taxes such as progressive, proportional and regressive taxation. An engaging story video on progressive taxes to highlight what it is and an evaluation. We look at VAT with some charts and graphs to contextualise it before looking at current income tax rates. We discuss the economic effects of changes in direct and indrect tax rates on other variables with examples and thought provoking questions. A 4 mark question with a model answer and video case studies with exam style questions to further prepare students for exams. This double lesson introduces learners to the concept of specialisation with an emphasis on comparative advantage. We start by looking at what specialisation is with examples of what some countries specialise in. We then look at a basic example of two countries producing two goods to really break down the concept of absolute and comparative advantage in an engaging way. We then look at this could be illustrated on a diagram. Some short answer exam questions for consolidation. We then look at the assumptions this model makes before having a break. We then look at a case study on Brazil, an exam style question with a model answer to peer assess using the marking grid. We finish off with a box plenary.

This double lesson introduces learners to price elasticity of demand - a tricky concept at first but this resource breaks everything down step by step with plenty of calculation and essay exam practice. We start by looking at the concept of elasticity with an engaging Eastenders starter, we learn the key formulas needed to tackle any PED questions before looking at examples of some inelastic products.
Students have the opportunity to calculate PED questions with answers on the board to show how answers are reached. We then go on to look at factors that affect the price elasticity of a product and apply this theory to a Nando’s 8 mark question - structure guidance and a model answer is provided for students to look at before peer assessing and responding to WWW and EBI.

We start with a recap of PED as knowledge of this needs to be secure before moving onto YED to prevent future confusion. We look what YED measures, the formula and the different types of goods that exist such as inferior and luxury goods.
Students have the opportunity to practise plenty of calculations on YED, some of which require percentage change to be calculated before calculating YED. All answers are provided. We then go onto look at factors that affect the income elasticity of a good before reading a case study on

The best way to bring this topic to life is to play a hotel game where students are hotel owners and try to make the most profit by changing their prices over a period of months - students can see their live profit after each month.
We start by introducing the concepts of revenue, cost and profit through step by step animated examples before playing the hotel game. A few calculation activities to consolidate the formulas learnt by students with answers provided on the board for students to peer assess with.

This lesson introduces learners to the competitive environment in which businesses operate in, we start by looking at a list of different markets/industries, to gain an insight to the different levels of competitiveness in each. We also look at factors that determine the competitiveness of a business before identifying ways a business can compete.

This double lesson introduces learners to the meaning of quality in business, and the different quality management systems that are used. We start by looking at quality control and quality assurance, animated images to show the difference between the two processes and their implications, with real life examples from car manufacturers. Knowledge consolidation activities included.
Two case studies focusing on the debate between QC and TQM, one is based on ZARA and is a 20 mark question, students can discuss the points first with the structure guidance before attempting to answer the question. Learners are introduces to recruitment and the steps involved (step by step) and students have the opportunity to participate in being interviewed by Lord Sugar (answers by the man himself are given too). Once recruited, we look at what training might need to be delivered and how through on the job vs off the job training, a scenario to highlight the pros and cons of each. Learners are introduced to key concepts in organisational structures such as span of control and chain of command in engaging ways i.e chinese whispers to demonstrate the negatives of a long chain of command. We look at the pros and cons of tall, flat and matrix structures, then we move on onto centralised and decentralised structures. A short case study based on cartoon characters who have switched to decentralised - a few questions to contextualize the knowledge.
Students have the opportunity to learn about the supermarket industry, in particular Morrisons struggle with the budget supermarkets which led to restructuring - a 12 mark question with structure guidance and a detailed model answer to help students with peer assessments, as well as making improvements to WWW and EBI.

This set of resources (1x PPT and 8x word docs) can be delivered over 3-4 lessons and introduces learners to the importance of business planning with an emphasis on cash flow forecasting. We start by looking at what’s included in a business plan and the purpose of creating one, a group matching cards activity to consolidate the contents of the business plan.
We then go on to looking at the importance of a positive cash flow, and how to construct a cash flow forecast from scratch step by step (although this isn’t required it helps understand the topic well). Students then go on to consolidate this by creating a cash flow forecast for Ian Beale’s fish and chip shop, some further calculation practice followed.

This 3 lesson bundle introduces learners to what the economy is made up of by discussing GDP and strong/weak economies around the world for a good foundation. We look at the business cycle and break down what happens at each stage, students have plenty of assessment opportunities to consolidate this knowledge.
The second lesson looks at exchange rates and interst rates and their effects on consumers and businesses, calculation practice included and other activities to consolidate this knowledge.

We then look at a number of real life examples of strong and weak cultures. We then look at Handy’s four cultures and Hofstede’s national cultures models. Influences on culture as these differ in businesses, finally we look at the challenges of changing culture as this is deeply embedded and always visible in business.
